What this policy covers

This policy covers fragranceiq.shop, the site you are reading now. It explains what we collect, why we collect it, where it is kept, and how to get it removed.

Checkout runs on Shopify. Shopify has its own privacy policy and its own terms, and those apply to the checkout step.

What we collect

Email address. You give it to us in the signup box that appears on the site, or in the newsletter form at the bottom of every page. It is the only field we require in those forms.

Mobile number. Optional. The signup box has a field for it so we can text you. Leave it blank and nothing changes about the rest of the site.

Quiz answers. If you take the scent quiz, your answers are turned into a short profile and saved in your own browser under the key fiq-profile. We use it to show match scores on product cards.

Cart contents. What you add to the cart is saved in your own browser under the key fiq-cart-v2 so it is still there when you come back.

We do not collect your name, your address, or any payment details on this site.

Where it is stored

Your quiz profile and your cart are stored in your browser using local storage. They stay on your device. They are not sent to a server, and they are not attached to an account, because this site has no customer accounts.

Clear your browser storage for this site and both are gone. We cannot recover them, because we never had them.

Email addresses and mobile numbers submitted through the signup box are held locally in the browser at the moment you submit them. At launch these forms connect to our email and SMS provider, and from that point your email and mobile number are stored with that provider.

Why we collect it

To send you your quiz matches, restock notices, and news about fragrances we add.

To answer you when you write to us.

To keep the site working, which means remembering your cart and your quiz profile between visits.

We do not sell your details. We do not rent them, trade them, or hand them to anyone for their own marketing.

Third parties

Shopify. Checkout, payment, and order records run through Shopify. Card details are entered on Shopify and handled by Shopify and its payment processors. This site never sees, receives, or stores card numbers.

Shopify CDN. Product images on this site are served from Shopify content delivery servers. Loading an image sends a normal web request, which includes your IP address, in the same way any image on any website does.

Email and SMS provider. When the signup forms go live they will pass your email address and, if you gave one, your mobile number to the provider that sends our email and texts.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and fragrances people look at. It records the pages you open, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you used. It does not receive your name, your email address, or your card details.

Microsoft Clarity. We use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are actually used, which includes recordings of mouse movement, scrolling, and taps. Text you type into a field is hidden from the recording. We use this to find parts of the site that are confusing or broken.

Meta pixel. If you came from a Facebook or Instagram advert, a Meta pixel tells Meta that the visit happened and whether you added something to a basket, so we can tell which adverts are worth running. This is the one thing on this list that follows you to another company.

Fonts. The site loads typefaces from Fontshare and Google Fonts, which involves a request to those services when a page loads.

Cookies and local storage

The analytics tools named above set their own cookies to tell a returning visitor from a new one. If you came from a Facebook or Instagram advert, the Meta pixel cookie does report back to Meta.

To turn all of it off, use your browser's Do Not Track or tracking-protection setting, or a content blocker. The site works normally with every one of them blocked.

It does use local storage in your browser for the two keys named above, fiq-profile and fiq-cart-v2. Local storage is not a cookie. It is not sent to us with every request. It sits on your device until you or your browser clears it.

Checkout on Shopify sets its own cookies, which are covered by Shopify.

Marketing, and how to stop it

You only go on our list if you put your details in one of the forms yourself. Email and texts are two separate permissions.

Email. Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link. One click stops it.

Texts. If you gave us a mobile number, you can stop texts by replying STOP to any message we send. Stopping texts does not stop email, and unsubscribing from email does not stop texts. You can also ask us to stop either or both by writing to IQfragranceassistance@gmail.com.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address and mobile number for as long as you want to hear from us. Unsubscribe or ask us to delete them and they come off the list.

Your quiz profile and cart are kept by your browser, not by us, so their lifetime is entirely up to you.

Order records made through Shopify are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to IQfragranceassistance@gmail.com and a human will answer.

You do not need to ask us to clear your quiz profile or cart. Clearing site data in your browser settings removes both immediately.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be announced to the list before they take effect.
